Healing After A Traumatic Experience
We will be discussing sexual assault recovery, it is not an easy topic to talk about, but it needs to be talked about. When an assault occurs, it is natural to wonder why. Many survivors question whether they could have caused or prevented the assault. Any person can be sexually assaulted. Nothing you did or did not do provoked the assault. The assailant is responsible for the assault. Sexual assault is an act of aggression designed to dominate and humiliate in order to gain a sense of power. No one invited or deserves an assault. Whatever you did to survive was right and it worked: you survived.
Recovering from a sexual assault or abuse is a process, and that process looks different for everyone. It may take weeks, months, or years, there is no timetable for healing. Our Guest Speaker Khrystina Shivers will share her process of her recovery, and what steps she is continuing to take to recover. Sexual assault can be terrifying and traumatic. After an assault, it’s not uncommon to feel fearful, confused, guilty, ashamed, or isolated. You do not have to deal with these feelings alone. There are many concerned people in your community to help you recover and heal.
